Parties en other gatherings

The last big post was mainly about the scientific stuff here, which is why we're here, but don't forget that we are a group of 200 students too. And although in our information leaflet it said that we should remember that CERN is not a university campus, there are young people spending their summer here. And yeah, they party.

On Wednesday we had welcome drinks, with live music. The music was cancelled, the drinks you had to buy yourself (except for a weird mixture that I drank way too fast) and it ended too early, but was fun nevertheless. The after party was outside CERN's the main restaurant and lasted longer.

Thursday then there was an ALICE party at point 2 (the place where the detector is) to which I could have gone, but as I don't know that many ALICE people I joined a group that would have gone to barbecue at the Lake Geneva. However, it would cost at least an hour to reach this splendid place that they had in mind, either by public transportation or by bike. So the group split up and I joined the part that walked all the way to the supermarket in St. Genis, got some food there, walked all the way back, had dinner back at CERN and played football thereafter. Now bear in mind that I had a bike waiting for me at CERN and food and cooking facilities in my hostel in St. Genis, but I walked all the way with them, lending them a tennis ball to play football with on the way.

Now today is Friday and that means weekend, so party. Well, party, on facebook the event, that starts in ten minutes at Restaurant 1 again, was announced as a "peaceful gathering of people drinking beer". Sounds good. So after having a quick and early dinner in my hostel in St. Genis, I got back up here to give you this update and chat a little (If I didn't speak to you for the last couple of days; where have you been?! I've been waiting for you on msn, facebook and gmail chat), and to go to this gathering.

Having no friends and no internet in the hostel makes it a rather boring place to be. It's good to sleep and eat, but basically I'm living here on the site. I forgot to take my headset and webcam with me today, but as there is nobody here at this time of the day I could just as well install skype.

Tomorrow is weekend, as said! I'm going to Ferney-Voltaire for some cheap shopping and then to town, haven't been in Geneva yet this year. There seems to be a parade of some sort, could be fun. On Sunday I might drive up to a mountain, or take a train towards one. I'll keep you posted.

By the way, you are all reading what I'm doing all day, but I would also like to know what you've been up to! Why is my mail box so empty? I'd love to hear from you!

Hoi Ing, Leuk te horen dat je geïnstalleerd bent, verder klinkt het nogal saai allemaal, behalve natuurljk die party's.
Het is maar goed dat je de auto daar hebt, voor de boodschappen en de extra opslagruimte. Hier is alles nogal zoals altijd.
